Supplemental Foods
WIC foods are intended to supplement participants’ food intake. Each of the WIC foods is rich in one or more of the following nutrients: protein, calcium, iron, and vitamins A, B, C, which tend to be low in the diet of the WIC target population.
Food Instruments:
American Samoa rolled out eWIC on May 2, 2018. The eWIC Card replaced the paper food checks and provides an easier way to issue food benefits while improving the shopping experience for WIC families and grocers. Each family receives one eWIC Card for all of their family’s food benefits. The eWIC Card provides a more convenient way for families to shop for WIC foods and the flexibility to purchase only what they need during each shopping trip.
